Relaying at Dottendorf

As it's a bank holiday weekend, it seems the obvious time to start major engineering works. The plan is to revise the track plan at Dottendorf to include a chalk/kaolin loading siding, and as a consequence to make the line that passes closest to the station building the main line rather than the outer line.

The first stage was to remove the section break at the Garsten end of the loop, thereby connecting it directly to the mainline power supply, and to disconnect the switchable power supply.

This resulted in needing to close up various rail joints, and the opportunity was taken to re-level the short siding at that end of the station. In due course, the current main line - the outer line - will have section breaks installed and will be separately controllable, allowing a train to be held while another passes.

The original layout can be seen here, with the points at the end of the former loop removed. The new arrangement will not require any reverse curves.

And a closer view.

Trial layout; the point has been reversed to provide access to the kaolin siding, and the new point has been placed.

With the points in place, the circuit has been restored, although the inner line needs to be reconnected and the power arrangements finalised.
